The trap that almost broke me (and how I scaled after firing myself)

That question hit me hard a few years ago when I realized something I had avoided for too long:
I wasn’t running a business.
I was running a bottleneck — and I was the bottleneck.
For years, I bought into the same founder myth most of us are sold:
“Work harder now, and one day you’ll have freedom.”
So I worked.
60–80 hour weeks.
Custom proposals, last-minute client fire drills, weekend delivery.
All in the name of building something “successful.”
And I did have success — at least on paper.
But every new client meant more hours.
Every revenue jump meant less time with my family.
Every step forward felt heavier.
Until one day, I just broke.
